Rebecca Romijn-Stamos graces the cover of this issue, "The Not So Virgin Islands". Although it was not the first time Sports Illustrated has used body paint (Elle MacPherson, 1984, and Georgianna Robertson, 1996), this issue heavily featured body paint swimsuits. Other models featured in the issue include Audrey Quock, Chandra North, Daniela Pestova, Eva Herzigova, Heidi Klum, Lujan Fernandez, Laetitia Casta, Michelle Behennah, Sarah O'Hare, Tamara Spoelder, Veronica Varekova, and Yamila Diaz.
